Berry Recruitment are currently looking for Public and Green Space Operatives to join a local authority to help with upkeep.
Job Title: Public and Green Space Operator
Salary: £12.00 per hour
Hours: Shifts begin between 05.00 and 07.00, finish between 13.00 and 18.00 covering 5 out of 7 days, dependent on the role. This role includes weekend working where required. For this role, a full UK driving licence would be required.
Purpose of the job:
To undertake cleansing and grounds maintenance services to keep the city looking good.
Main Activities:
- To be responsible within an identified area and as part of a team for:
- Grounds maintenance and vegetation management tasks such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, shrub bed maintenance including pruning, and weed spraying etc often using powered pedestrian and hand held equipment
- Graffiti removal using chemicals or powered equipment
- Mechanical sweeping
- General maintenance of sports pitches, tennis courts and other outdoor sports facilities
- As demand dictates, removing litter, emptying litter bins, removing small amounts of graffiti, trimming or removing weed growth and overhanging shrubs, cleaning public toilets etc
- To respond to and resolve simple issues that arise on a day to day basis and to highlight other issues to the Public and Green Space Team Leader
- To report issues adversely affecting the look and feel of the public realm such as damaged streetscene or greenspace furniture, fly-tipping, stray dogs, dog fouling, abandoned cars, littering, illegal use of council land, bins left on pavements etc
- To inform members of the public and businesses about your work and help them with their queries and complaints
- To undertake training on the safe use of equipment and safe working practices and to achieve consistently good performance
- To take part in the exchange of ideas and participate in future improvements.
- To undertake work in a safe and effective manner at all times, following City Council policies and procedures, and to be responsible for your safety and that of the public
- To use IT solutions that support mobile working and efficient responses to demand.
- To undertake basic recording of information e.g. play equipment checks or timesheets.
- To work flexibly at evenings and weekends when required to meet the demands of the service
- To support operations across the whole Public Realm service where required
- Such other duties relevant to the post and grading relating to the job description overall which may from time to time be deemed appropriate.
