At Totally Local Company an opportunity has arisen for an Chargehand Gardener who possess' a professional demeanour, sound judgement and integrity to join our street care team.
Duties & Responsibilities
To contribute to the achievement of the key objective for Environmental Services by undertaking a comprehensive range of flexible, responsive and planned duties within the company. These duties will include the provision of Street Cleansing, Grounds and Horticultural Maintenance operations and other activities that impact on the Street Environment, Parks and Green Spaces. These services are primarily to residents, visitors and businesses within the borough but may also include commercial work inside and outside of the borough.
Cleansing
To undertake cleansing duties allocated by the supervisor in accordance with agreed procedures to defined standards. The duties are generally connected to the cleanliness of the environment. This includes sweeping, cleaning, litter picking, emptying litter and dog waste bins, the removal of weeds and all types of debris and refuse, including sharps, dead animals and faeces.
Where required to remove graffiti and fly posting or other offensive material. The cleaning of public toilets, road signs and litter bins.
The clearance of culverts.
Grounds ( including Parks and Greenspaces)
To undertake Grounds maintenance and horticultural duties in the following areas:
Parks including countryside parks, green areas including highway verges, landscaped areas, planted areas, council properties, recreation areas, cemeteries, schools and other public amenity areas.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- To drive a range of vehicles with gross vehicle weight up to 7.5 tonnes including tippers, mechanical sweepers, ride on mowers, tractors, small mechanical diggers, platform vehicles, chipping machines etc and be responsible for daily vehicle checks and adjustments, brush maintenance, routine cleaning and defect reporting.
- To work with chargehands and operational supervisors to address performance and other staff related issues.
- To plan workload objectives with staff to ensure that an effective service is provided at all times by motivating, directing, supervising and monitoring of manual operatives.
- Responsible for the discipline, welfare and safety of individual work groups.
- Responsible for ensuring that staff perform their duties efficiently and effectively in line with business objectives.
- Ensuring that all relevant information and targets are communicated to all staff within the workgroup.
- Ensuring that all appropriate Health & Safety policies and procedures are understood and implemented within the group in order to provide a Safe environment for staff, customers and members of the public.
- To undertake general maintenance duties in the following areas:
- General maintenance of all green areas including commercial premises, schools, parks, countryside parks, highway verges, landscaped areas, planted areas, council properties, recreation areas, cemeteries, schools and other public amenities, high profile lawn areas, fine turf and sports turf, horticultural features.
- Carry out high quality horticultural operations including hand weeding, weed spraying, application of pesticides and fertilisers, mowing grass, pruning, hedge cutting, planting, seeding, turfing, leaf removal and setting out bedding in accordance with design specification and other associated horticultural duties.
- Erect, dismantle and maintain recreational and sports facilities including goal posts and other recreational equipment. Set out, mark out and maintain markings on sports facilities to specified standards.
- Pavilion duties
- To undertake legally required measurements and keep accurate records regarding the Reservoir act.
