Hotel Tresanton is situated on Cornwalls southern coast, in the fishing village of St Mawes.

This former yacht club was transformed by Olga Polizzi in 1998 into a luxury bespoke hotel that has the feel of being on the Italian Riviera. The hotel is built into the hillside and the garden weaves its way through, from the beach club overlooking the sea at the bottom up through the 137 steps to the car park. Mrs Polizzi herself takes a keen interest in the garden, it is an integral part of the hotel experience and are loved by the guests. It is beautifully planted with rare and sub-tropical plants, which flourish in the micro climate of St Mawes.

We are looking for someone with a real passion for horticulture, who is inspired by tropical planting and interested in rare and unusual gardens and plants. You will need to be prepared to work at different levels and on sloping grounds as the garden is in some areas uneven and difficult to access. This is a wonderful job where you will be able to enhance this amazing garden and work in a truly beautiful environment.

With direct reporting to the General Manager, the key roles of the job will be:

Maintain and preserve the original planting whilst being able to highlight areas that may need new planting, and provide suggestions for this.

Maintain hedges, weed borders and prune where necessary.

Working knowledge of machinery hedge trimmers and lawn mowers.

Keep the areas around the garden swept and tidy.

The ability to work autonomously and manage your day efficiently.

Good communication with the General Manager and walk throughs once per month

Ability to liaise with suppliers with regards the ordering of plants, garden care and maintenance supplies whilst maintaining a budget.

Qualifications

Good knowledge of plants and understanding of coastal planting.

High level of experience in planting gardens and gardening, with a horticultural qualification desirable.

Ability to work alone and manage time effectively.
