Position Function
Under the direction of the Transportation/Stormwater Superintendent, performs duties necessary to support the Stormwater Division to ensure the proper maintenance of City grounds, green spaces, retention ponds, and common and other areas of City-owned property and/or facilities providing for a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment.
Essential Duties
- Performs duties necessary to support the Transportation/Stormwater Superintendent, performs duties necessary to support the Stormwater Division to ensure the proper maintenance of City grounds, green spaces, retention ponds, and common and other areas of City-owned property and/or facilities providing for a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment. Duties include but are not limited to, mowing, trimming, edging, sodding, baffle box clean out and maintenance, painting, lighting, trash and debris removal, and pond and outfall inspections. Responsible for safely using and proper care and maintenance of all tools and equipment necessary to complete projects, assignments, and/or tasks.
- Performs duties to construct, repair, and maintain inlets, water feature structures, and storm flumes and structures. Duties include but are not limited to, the installation, repair, and maintenance of boat ramps, storm pipes and inlets, baffle boxes, stormwater structures, and bridges. Responsible for illegal discharge inspections.
- Assists with the repair of roadways, including but not limited to grading, pothole repairs/patches, street light repair and/or replacement, concrete and asphalt work, and sign and/or traffic control device installation.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Environment
Duties are performed primarily within an outdoor environment or setting. Possible exposure to electrical and chemical hazards; water; vibration; loud noise; inclement weather; dust, allergens, and mold.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Required knowledge and experience are normally obtained through the completion of a curriculum resulting in either a High School Diploma or GED, and one (1) to three (3) years work related experience are required. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be considered, unless otherwise subject to any requirements set forth in law or regulation.
- Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
- Must be able to communicate and present oneself professionally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City employees officials, and the general public.
- Ability to take and follow oral instructions.
- Ability to read and understand instructions and product directions.
- Ability to work under high demands, short time constraints, and pressure in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to work during weekends and nighttime events and hours of operation.
- Skilled in operating ride and push mowers, graders, landscaping equipment, and handheld and/or power tools.
Other Requirements
- Must possess a Valid Florida Class E driver's license.
- Must pass applicable pre-employment testing and background and credit checks.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
