Additional Information The successful candidate will be engaging in regulated activity, working regularly in a location where the work gives an opportunity for contact with children.
An Enhanced DBS will be required.
Job Purpose
To assist and undertake a range of basic maintenance and repair work to the school and other buildings that The Oxford Academy manages. This will include grounds, fixtures and fittings in accordance with the Academy Health & Safety rules and regulations. The post holder will carry out appropriate tasks as assigned as part of the Academy’s planned maintenance programme and team.
Key Responsibilities
● To assist with proactively and regularly touring the buildings and site and identify repairs and maintenance issues, prioritising their resolution as necessary;
● Maintain an understanding of and be able to operate, to a basic level, all the Building
Management Systems, together with the intruder alarm and Fire security systems; Training will be given;
● Help ensure that fire evacuation routes in particular and corridors and stairwells generally are clear of all rubbish and obstructions, removing furniture cardboard and rubbish to the appropriate skips or bins for recycling or waste;
● Help ensure that the outside area, adjacent to the academy buildings, including all entrance doors are clear of rubbish, build-up of leaves and any cigarette ends etc.
● Help to ensure that the external sports surfaces are properly maintained and kept free of debris, operating grounds maintenance equipment as required;
● Assist and make minor maintenance and repairs as necessary both internally and externally;
● Assist and undertake general landscaping, (including grass cutting, weeding);
● Undertake emergency cleaning duties which may occur during the academy day e.g. clearing up ‘hazardous substances’ such as spilt chemicals, broken glass, vomit, blood etc;
● Be a key-holder;
● Be responsible for opening up and securely locking and alarming the Academy, as required, making sure the alarm system is activated at times when the Academy;
● Ensure that appropriate action is taken to ensure that access is possible for both vehicles and pedestrians in the case of icy weather or snowfall;
● Ensure the prompt delivery of parcels to the correct location on site;
● Move furniture and fittings around the site as required;
● Drive the Academy van as required to pick up or collect ordered items from local suppliers.
If a driving Licence is held and age restrictions do not apply;
● Assist and contribute to the regular inspection of the Academy mini buses and other academy vehicles to ensure that they are roadworthy and in a condition that is safe for the transport of staff and students, ensuring that they meet statutory requirements. Drive the
Academy minibuses if required;
● The Academy operates an Emergency Call Out System. The call out system involves attending site out of normal working hours in accordance with established call out procedures and practices, to make safe and restore Academy services. The Maintenance
Assistant will attend the Academy as necessary and will receive an agreed overtime rate;
● Undertake any other duties that can be accommodated within the grading level and nature of this post.

● To undertake other such duties as may be reasonably required by the line manager which are in line with the grading of the post.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced

Employment will also be conditional on the receipt of at least two acceptable references (1 from current/latest employer) and evidence of the formal qualifications required for the role.

Personal Specification
Essential Desirable
Experience D1 or equivalent First aid at work certificate or willingness to learn
Experience of Health & Safety procedures or willingness to learn
Have a full clean driving licence
Previous experience in a similar role
Skills The ability to carry out tasks without Experience of working within a school close supervision environment
Enthusiastic, approachable and a team player

Good IT skills in Outlook, Word and
