The Role of the Match Day / Event Day Grounds staff at the Gtech Community Stadium
We require match day/ event day ground staff to join our pool of workers who can be called upon to work at the Gtech Community Stadium on an as required basis.
The Gtech Community Stadium is a multi-purpose venue that is the home of Brentford Football Club and is equipped to host Rugby Union and other top-class events.
This is a vital role at Brentford FC, as we aim to have the best stadium pitch in the premier League, and we are committed to continuing to invest in this area over the coming seasons.
Working with the Grounds Team, the successful applicants will be required to assist the Head Grounds person and Deputy Head Grounds person in the operational and technical success of events taking place at the Gtech stadium integrated into our match day set up.
Previous use of pedestrian machinery and experience in pitch repair works is essential.
Please note: We are looking for people with previous experience in grounds or greenkeeping at other sites.
The ideal candidate will have a track record of delivering an outstanding playing surface at an elite level. They will have experience of working within an in-house team of ground staff, as well as the ability to manage any use of seasonal/ matchday contracting staff at the Club. We would expect this person to have a deep knowledge of pitch maintenance.
This person will have very strong communication skills which will enable the delivery of a world-class stadium pitch. They will have a strong attention to detail, excellent planning and be able to work within a team that presents and maintains a world-class stadium pitch.
Main Accountabilities
Specific duties will include:
- Repair works to the field of play in the form of divoting after warm up’s, half time and post-match use.
- Post match mowing, using pedestrian rotary and cylinder mowers.
- Repositioning and cabling of the grow lights post-game as and when required.
- Washdown and cleaning of machinery prior to next use.
- Comply with all Health and Safety regulations and requirements within the Company and your role.
- Drive vehicles and handle equipment as required for grounds maintenance operations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, colleagues and end users and ensure grounds management are kept informed of any issues that may be identified.
- Undertaking general maintenance operations associated with pitch and associated infrastructure.
- Work within a stadium team to ensure that the Club is able to meet its target of delivering a world-class Stadium pitch.
- This job description does not contain all the duties and responsibilities that may arise in this role, and you will need to undertake other duties as instructed or on initiative to ensure the safe operational functioning of the stadium.
- Expectation is to work at least 95% of home fixtures.
- Please note - payment is for pre- and post-match tasks. During the game the 90 mins is deemed as a break and will not be paid.

Person Specification - Essential Characteristics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Confident working alongside full-time grounds management.
- Experience being a Grounds person within sporting environments.
- NVQ L2 qualification in sports turf, green keeping and groundsmanship or equivalent.
- A self-starter with a high level of initiative, proactivity, and assertive approach
- Uses initiative with minimal supervision including in challenging situations.
- Can manage a heavy workload with strict deadlines.
- A clean UK driving license, to allow for travel to and from the stadium if required.
- Flexible and willing to take on ad-hoc tasks as this role will require weekend working.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
